I stopped after primary school because there was nothing for girls near us. Now I train twice a week and I have run at county level twice.
Training is three buses from ours. The minibus means I actually get there, and I have not missed a session since September.
Boots were the thing. Two boys, both growing, and it was either kit or the shopping that week. The kit bank quietly solved it.
I came through the football programme, then they paid for my Level 1. Now I coach the Tuesday session I used to attend.
I could not swim at all in September. I did twenty-five metres in March and my mum came to watch.
We always had the coaches. What we never had was a way to say yes to a family who could not pay the subs.
