Trial process

A trial should show how a player solves football problems, not just how fast they run.

The session includes technical work, small-sided games and coached match play so staff can observe the player in more than one situation.

01

Registration

Submit age group, playing position, current club or experience and preferred trial date.

02

Arrival briefing

Players receive the session plan, field information and a short warm-up before assessment starts.

03

Assessment session

Technical practice, small-sided games and position-relevant match actions.

04

Feedback

Families receive the recommended next step after coaches review the complete session.

What coaches assess

Four areas matter more than one standout moment.

Technique: first touch, passing quality, receiving and striking.

Decisions: scanning, timing, support and choices under pressure.

Movement: balance, coordination, acceleration and repeat effort.

Behaviour: communication, response to coaching and work with teammates.

Trial questions

Does every trial lead to an academy place?

No. Players may be offered an academy group, a development program or advice on what to work on before another assessment.

Can goalkeepers attend trials?

Yes. Goalkeepers are assessed on handling, positioning, distribution and game involvement.

When is feedback provided?

Feedback is sent after the coaching team has reviewed the full session rather than immediately after one exercise.

Ready for assessment

Choose the correct age group and request a trial place.

Share the player’s current level honestly so coaches can place them in the right environment.
